Melina

March 22, 2009

My niece, Melina Herrey (Richard’s daughter) has her 20th birthday today. I thought it would be nice to post these two photos of her. Six months ago she was admitted to the Swedish national gymnastics team. If I understand it correctly, it is very unusual for someone with such an “advanced” age to be admitted. But she’s faught a long battle, traing like crazy, to be able to get this opportunity. She’s been a good example of: “It you want it, you can get it!” Way to go Melina – never give up!

Happy Birthday!

I agree – in sports such as gymnastics, they do like to find champions while they are still VERY young. So, for Melina still to have gained a place on the Swedish national team at almost 20 years of age, is rather unusual, though not entirely impossible – as she has already proven.

These sorts of things still do happen occasionally. When I was watching the last Olympic Games on television, there was a female gymnast competing for Germany (I think), who won a silver or bronze medal in the vault competition. All the commentators remarked on her age. From memory, I think she was in her mid-late 30’s. She was originally from an eastern European country, and some years ago, in her youth, had also competed for her country of origin, in the Olympic gymnastics. For whatever reason, she had decided to make a come-back, and compete in the Olympics again, this time for a different country. Good luck to her, I say.

It just goes to show that what Louis said is true – if we want something badly enough, we can usually get it (no matter what the “odds” are), with a lot of hard work. Congratulations to Melina on making the Swedish national team – I wish her every success in her competitions. And Happy Birthday too!

Stå på videre og lykke til!

And second…congratulations on your gymnastics!!! I have such a admirence for gymnasts.
It must take a lot of “guts” to jump over al those “things”.
WOW! I’m already scared when I stay on a chair to take something out of the closet…
